  Frequently Asked Questions

      Q.  Where do I start?

A.      You already have. By making the decision to take back your garage and use it for its intended purpose (parking the car ) you’re well on your way to an organized garage. All you have to do now is call (301) 490-6326 or e-mail us at info@marylandgaragedesigns.com and one of our design specialist will meet you, at your convenience, at your home for a free garage inspection and consultation.

Q.    What should I expect during the first visit?

A.     A design specialist will meet you at your home and take a few photos and measurements of your garage. He will look for available space and garage content and begin to form a garage storage theme around your family needs. He will bring product samples and garage storage brochures and answer any question you may have. This first visit should take less than an hour.

Q.    What next?

A.    Within 10 days from the first visit our garage storage system team will contact you to set a follow up appointment at your convenience. The design specialist will bring the full detailed estimate, along with your floor plan design to review.  If agreed, a contract would be signed and your install date would be scheduled along with any further changes to the design.

Q.
How long after I sign can you begin?

A.    Depending on the work load, about 2 weeks.

Q.    How long will it take once you begin?

A.    Depending on the project size, most garages are done in 1 to 3 days.

Q.     Do I need to be home while you’re installing?

A.     We would need you to be there in the mornings to open the garage doors. We work only in the garage, so you may lock your entry door and go about your daily routine.

Q.    I have years of junk stored in my garage. How do I get rid of all that junk?

A.    We can help. First you must decide what is junk and what stays. Although we would be available to assist, we can not decide what to discard. This is the responsibility of the homeowner. We suggest that you form piles (trash, junk, storage, sports, lawn & garden, winter, summer) to start. The hardest part will be parting with all the stuff that you have accumulated throughout the years. The first pile is trash. It’s not good to anyone, it should be disposed of properly. The second one is junk. It may not be useful to you, yet could be to someone else and therefore be donated to the local thrift store for tax credits or put in a garage sale. The next piles are for things that are going to go back into the garage and should be separated into categories (sports & recreation, lawn & garden, automotive, summer, winter, storage). If you have a pickup load of junk or trash we would be happy to drop it off at your local thrift store or county dump. But if you are considering a major overhaul and disposal we could call in a dumpster or we suggest a company like 1-800-got-junk www.1800gotjunk.com  who specialize in junk removal and cleaning.

·       TIP: When sorting thru years of junk ask yourself “have I used that item in the past 12 months?” If the answer is no, then it’s most likely junk.

Q.    Do I need a storage container to put all my stuff in when you are installing our new garage system?

A.    If you have a lot of items and are doing all the walls or a floor covering, we suggest that you get a container to store it all in. We can arrange one for you or you may call yourself. We suggest www.pods.com as a container.

·       TIP: During the sorting phase it’s a good idea to get a dozen tubs from the local store (Target, WalMart, etc.), label them and begin to fill them with seasonal item that will be put in storage later. We recommend clear tubs to see inside exactly what you are looking for.

Q.    Should I paint my walls?

A.    We would recommend a fresh coat of paint. Your garage will become an extension of your other rooms in the house and painted walls will enhance the look.

Q.    Are your installers professional, licensed and insured?

A.    Yes. Yes. Yes. All Maryland Garage Designs installation crews are hand picked for experience and professionalism. We do most installation ourselves, but on occasions we hire a professional contractor that has experience with our garage systems. They are clean, polite and show up on time. They represent our company philosophy that is “Customer Satisfaction”.

Q.    I am a Do-It-Yourselfer (DIY’s) and would like to purchase your garage storage products. Can I just buy the garage storage material from Maryland Garage Design and install it myself?

A.    Absolutely. We understand that there is a growing number of DIY’s that can not get the best garage organization system from their local big chain hardware store. So we sell storage systems and deliver directly to you. In the central Maryland area our trucks will deliver all the supplies to your house. If you buy online, we will ship it to the address you give within the United States. We are also available to answer any questions you may have during your project. For an additional cost we can do the design layout and space consultation for you.

Q.    Why your products?

A.    We choose only the best quality products available for the garage business. The companies that make our products include StoreWALL (garage wall grid), Schulte (accessories for the Storwall), Hyloft (overhead garage storage), Racor (bike lifts), FreedomRail Garage (garage storage cabinets and shelves) and Racedeck (garage tiled floors). They all have the best backed warranties in their business. They can be adjusted to change with your growing family storage needs. We know that toddlers grow out of little tikes and into mountain bikes, and that strollers are replaced one day with camping gear and we believe your garage system should adapt and change with you. Unlike other garage companies that come in and install a system that is permanently fixed in place, ours can be adjusted quickly to handle your changing life.

Q.    Can I add products to my system after it’s installed?

A.    Yes. Once you become a Maryland Garage Designs customer we will gladly help and assist you with all your future garage storage needs. Most orders can be shipped directly to your home from our manufacturers. If you refer a neighbor or friend and they decide to put a system in we will send you a free activity organizer of your choice as a way of thanking you.

Q.    My house is very organized and beautiful, but my garage is a disaster and I am embarrassed to let anyone in it, including you. How can you help me get over this hurdle?

A.  We understand your feelings and are here to help organize your garage, not criticize it. When we complete the job, not only will you be more organized and functional with cars parked inside, but you will become the envy of the whole neighborhood. You will want to leave the doors open for everyone to see how cool your garage is. We do suggest that you close them at night for safety reasons.

Q.  Why should I spend any money on my garage? After all, it’s only a garage.

A.   We see the garage as the largest square footage space in the home that is the least used for its intended purpose (parking the car). A well organized functional garage not only accomplishes that, it becomes another room in the house. Our customers have said that they love their new found property and that they are now entertaining friends and neighbors in the garage. Imagine an unorganized kitchen, or closet. You would be looking everywhere to find stuff and take forever to make dinner or get dressed. We take the same approach and see organized garages the same way. We believe that any money spent to get your garage back is money well spent.

Q.  Is the garage make over only for the super rich?

A.  No. We have wall/cabinet storage systems starting under $1000. Every customer is different, with different budgets, and we work with the customer to accomplish their needs within that budget. We are custom interior garage organizers who satisfy one garage owner at a time. We may not be the biggest, but we are the best when it comes to your garage. If budget is not a concern, and would like a MTV Crib designer garage, we can handle that too.

Q.  I’m ready! When can you start?

A.  Call (301) 490-6326 or e-mail at info@marylandgaragedesigns.com today and get organized for life!
